I honestly don't know much about the meal itself. It was catered by a local restaurant, which I happened to forget the name for already. I have a feeling that a lot of the ingredients were shipped in from other areas as a lot of restaurants do. There was rice, which I know requires a lot of water to grow. So that could contribute to some depleting of the water. The ingredients for the salad also most likely used a lot of water and nutrients from the soil to grow. I'm not sure if those ingredients were grown locally, if so, the fertilizer used could possibly have a negative effect on the area.
The transportation used could have been anything from trucking to flying. I'm not sure exactly what way these ingredients were transported. I personally know they came to the reception in a van, so by car for sure. I'm sure the waste was substantial. In catering, there is always more than enough food to go around, I'm not sure if employees are allowed to take that food home so it doesn't get wasted or not. If not, that food most likely just ended up in the dumpster. If they are allowed to take it, the packaging is most likely made of plastic. This would cause a waste along the lines of my first post about the plastic bag. Maybe not to the same capacity, but it would affect the environment when they got discarded.
